Meaning 2018
Meaning 2018
We are living through an epidemic of work-related stress. The culture we create around business too often has a negative impact on the lives and emotions of the individuals who commit their time and their efforts to work. As leaders, we must embrace the skills, as well as the compassion and good intentions, that we need in order to support each other.
Poppy Jaman joined us as one of the UK’s foremost voices in understanding and dealing with mental health. She holds a number of leadership positions, including as CEO of the City Mental Health Alliance – a coalition promoting a culture of good mental health among City of London workplaces. Through her diverse international networks and non-executive board positions, she has played an instrumental part in making mental health a high priority for public and private sector employers. In the 2018 New Year’s Honours Poppy was awarded and OBE in recognition of her services to people with mental health issues.
At Meaning, Poppy gave us an insight into the concept of mental health first aid. She drew on the challenges she has faced in her own life, and on her experience as head of Mental Health First Aid England, to advocate for a pro-active approach, using practical tools and techniques to care for ourselves and for our colleagues.
